Mission Academy of Performing Arts @ Brava Presents
Unmasked: The Covid Chronicles
STORIES FROM THE PANDEMIC
Friday, April 29, 2022 at 7pm
This very special, one night only theatrical event will celebrate eight brand new original plays written by teens, all of which chronicle their experiences with Covid-19 during the pandemic. From the disasters of online school to the devastation of shops closing, from the glorious imagination of little children to the wildfire orange skies, this experience provided our student playwrights and designers the opportunity to process their grief, distress and to find the silver linings and discover the power of storytelling.
In the spirit of Ruth Asawa and Black Mountain College, our young thespians were able to work side by side with professional teaching artists working on playwriting, scenic design and painting, sound design, and lighting design. They even got to work on stage with two adult actors - courtesy of the San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Company.
The live performances were filmed on the main stage of the historic Brava Theater, edited professionally and are now ready to share with all of you. This blockbuster event embodies the vision of the Arts Education Masterplan as San Francisco Unified partners with the Mission Academy of Performing Arts @ Brava, San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Company, James Lick Middle School, the Pacific Singers and Actor's Workshop, the San Francisco Opera Guild, and media company The ComplexSF.
The screening will run 90 minutes.
