I am Black, Gay, and PROUD
Say it Loud
I am Black, Gay, and PROUD.
Is that “ok”?
Am I allowed to be both defining parts of myself?
These questions plagued my mind, body, and spirit as a growing adolescent.
Now 31, I see my identity as an opportunity to over-love the two parts of me
that from a societal point of view do not always receive love-
And, in fact, the two parts themselves often have conflict with one another.
I’m blessed to be so loved for who I am
To not live in shame or fear.
To be proud of my Black culture and Never hide my queerness.
That is a beautiful thing.
